Dr. House

Why are the first group of the periodic table so reactive? They only have one outer electron so there ready to give it away in forming with another element. Alkali metals are very good heat conductors, electric conducters and more. They can explode if exposed to water.
Cesium and francium are the most reactive elements in the alkali metals group. The alkali metals are softer than most other metals in the periodic table. Hydrogen is not a alkali metal but is in group one.
Alkali metals are very similiar in lots of ways. They are all shiny, highly reactive and soft metals at standard temperature and pressure. Because there highly reactive they have to be kept under oil in order to not react with the air.
